Patna: A doctor from Khagaria, his wife and their driver were killed after an SUV rammed into a road divider on the Mokama-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane road in Patna district on Tuesday morning.The accident took place around 7.30am near Karnal village, shortly after the vehicle crossed the Mokama flyover. The SUV went out of control and rammed into the divider with such force that it was mangled and split into two parts.The victims were identified as Dr Pawan Kumar Gupta, 60, a resident of Dakshin Madar under Morkahi police station in Khagaria district, his wife Sulochana Devi, 55, and their driver Mohd Sadre Alam, 28, a resident of Navtoliya.Police and locals rescued the three occupants from the wreckage and rushed them to Mokama Referral Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.According to police, the couple had travelled to Ayodhya to visit the Ram temple and were returning to their ancestral village in Khagaria after offering prayers. A preliminary investigation suggests the driver may have dozed off, causing the SUV to veer off the road and hit the divider.Mokama SHO Kunal Kumar said the bodies had been sent for postmortem examination and the families had been informed. “All three deceased were residents of Khagaria and their families have been informed of the incident. The police are investigating the accident,” he said.
