Sasaram: A bid to arrest an attempt-to-murder accused at Kapsiya village under Rajpur police station area in Rohtas district ended in controversy after he sustained serious injuries, with police and his family offering conflicting accounts of how he was hurt.According to police, Shubham Kumar alias Tunna, wanted in connection with an attempt-to-murder and assault case registered on March 28, suffered injuries after jumping from the roof of a house while trying to evade arrest. He sustained injuries to his waist and arms, and was admitted to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for treatment.Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar said the accused fell while attempting to flee during the arrest operation and that his injuries were caused by the fall. However, Shubham’s family alleged that he was assaulted by police during the operation.His brother, Vikas Kumar, claimed that doctors at the trauma centre of Sasaram Sadar Hospital had referred him to a higher medical centre for specialised treatment, but police kept him in custody and continued his treatment at the district hospital. The family has urged authorities to allow his transfer to a higher centre for advanced medical care.Tunna is among the accused in a case involving an alleged attempt to murder and assault a resident of Kapsiya village. A police team had gone to the village to arrest him when the incident occurred.Meanwhile, Dr Sanjay Kumar, who examined the injured accused, said he had multiple injury marks on his body. The circumstances in which those injuries were sustained remain disputed. While police maintain they resulted from the fall during an escape attempt, the family alleges custodial assault.
