Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) has prepared a comprehensive work plan to introduce a revised methodology for PhD scholars, aimed at strengthening research quality and standardising the coursework evaluation process in accordance with the Bihar State Universities PhD Ordinances and Regulations, 2026.According to PPU registrar Abu Bakar, the university has made it mandatory for every research scholar to secure a minimum of 55% marks to qualify for thesis submission under the new framework. The internal assessment examinations under the revised system will be conducted from July 10 to July 18, he said.The evaluation pattern has been designed in a structured format carrying a total of 100 marks, of which 30 marks will be allotted for internal assessment and the remaining 70 marks for the main examination. The internal component will focus on continuous academic evaluation, while the main examination will test conceptual clarity and research depth, Bakar said.The coursework covers 24 subjects, with 1,209 research scholars already enrolled across the university for the 2024-25 session. The revised syllabus structure includes four papers. Paper I will focus on research methodology, Paper II on research publication, Paper III on recent advancements and subject specialisation in the respective discipline, and Paper IV on the review of relevant literature, Bakar added.According to PPU examination controller Manoj Kumar, the 70-mark main examination will have three sections. Section A will consist of objective-type questions carrying 20 marks, Section B will include short-answer questions carrying 20 marks, and Section C will comprise long-answer questions carrying 30 marks.The revised framework has been introduced to bring greater academic rigour, improve research standards and ensure that scholars are better prepared for high-quality doctoral work, Kumar said. He added that the new system is also expected to enhance analytical skills and strengthen a publication-oriented approach among research scholars.
